Raggesokker

Woolen socks are not my favorite knitting project, I just think it's a bit boring... Knowing this, you'll understand that I was in desperate need of a project while being a car passenger this summer, resorting to this knit. Fortunately, socks are popular items at the Christmas sale :-)

Three skeins were just enought for two pairs; one adult size and one toddler size. Feel like knitting a pair? This is how I make them:

WOOLEN SOCKS
Cast on 48 stitches on four double pointed needles size 4mm (or 3,5 if you knit loosely). Knit rib (k2, p2) for approximately 35-40 rounds, depending on the desired length.

Heel:
Knit 15 rounds stockinette stitch over the first 24 stitches. Then, starting from the purl side, purl 15, purl 2 stitches together, turn, knit until you have 9 stitches left, knit 2 together, turn, purl until there's one stitch left before the "gap" (where you turned the last time). Purl the two stitches before and after the gap together. Turn. Knit until there's one stich left before the "gap", knit the stitches before and after the gap together. Continue this way until there are no more stitches after the gaps.

Pick up 12 stitches on the left side of the remaining stitches from the heel, knit rib the next two needles, pick up 12 stitches on the right side of the heel. Move four stitches from the heel to the left needle and four stitches to the right needle. Work in rounds, rib on top of the sock, and stockinette under the foot. Every second round, four times, decrease one stitch in each side, where the rib meets the stockinette. Left side: k2tog (knit 2 together), right side: SSK (slip, slip, knit). There should be 12 stitches on each needle after having completed the decreases.

Knit rounds (rib on top and stockinette under) until 1-1.5" of full length remains. Time to decrease for the toe:

Toe:
You should decrease twice on each needle, like this:
*Knit 4, knit 2 together, knit 4, knit 2 together. Repeat on the next three needles. Knit 4 rounds without decreases.
*Kknit 3, knit 2 together, knit 3, knit 2 together. Repeat on the next three needles. Knit 3 rounds without decreases.
*Knit 2, knit 2 together, knit 2, knit 2 together. Repeat on the next three needles. Knit 2 rounds without decreases.
*Knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 1, knit 2 together. Repeat on the next three needles. Knit 1 round without decreases.
*Knit 2 together throughout the whole round (all four needles). Cut the yarn and pull the yarn through the 8 remaining stitches. Weave in the yarn ends.

Good luck :-)
